Léa, 18 ans, abandonnée par son amant boxeur Réo. Elle cherche alors du reconfort auprès de sa mère Lizette. Mais cette dernière est à son tour séduite par Réo. Elle quitte son mari, Marcel, pour vivre sa passion. Manon, la soeur de Léa, est amoureuse de l'écrivain Chester Céline à qui elle est vouée corps et âme. L'arrivée de Chester chambarde tout. Tentant d'échapper à la passion de Manon, l'écrivain tombe amoureux de Léa. Désabusée, Manon se retire dans un couvent. Lizette et Réo quittent la ville. Marcel, désespéré, se suicide. Léa s'enfuit vers le Wyoming avec Chester.
